Mumbai:<\/strong> In a moment of pride for the Brihanmumbai Police, the 10-year-old son of two serving police personnel has etched his name on the national sporting stage by winning one gold and one bronze medal<\/strong> at the 69th School Games Federation of India (SGFI) National Skating Championship.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

Om Sainath Shinde<\/strong>, competing in the under-11 category<\/strong>, delivered an impressive performance at the national tournament held at ITM Global School, Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.<\/strong> The championship brought together the country\u2019s best young skating talents, selected through a rigorous multi-level qualification process spanning district, zonal and state rounds.<\/p>\n\n

Only the top three skaters from each district progressed to the city-level selections, followed by zonal trials, with just a handful ultimately earning a spot at the national meet. Om\u2019s journey through this demanding pathway highlighted not just his technical skill, but also his mental strength and discipline.<\/p>\n\n

The challenge intensified for the Mumbai-based skater in Gwalior, where temperatures dipped between 8\u00b0C and 10\u00b0C<\/strong>\u2014a stark contrast to Mumbai\u2019s humid climate. Despite the unfamiliar cold conditions, Om maintained balance, speed and precision, securing podium finishes against seasoned competitors from across India.<\/p>\n\n

Om\u2019s mother, Bhagyeshri Sainath Shinde<\/strong>, shared insights into her son\u2019s demanding routine. \u201cHis skating practice begins at 3.30 am<\/strong> and continues until 6 am. After that, he attends school from 8 am to 3 pm, followed by swimming or other physical training sessions in the evening,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n

Both parents serve with the Brihanmumbai Police<\/strong>, working opposite shifts\u2014Bhagyeshri on day duty and Om\u2019s father, Sainath Kashinath Shinde<\/strong>, on night duty. Balancing professional responsibilities, including additional duties linked to ongoing municipal election work, alongside their son\u2019s training schedule has been challenging. \u201cIt\u2019s not easy, but we make it work because we believe in his dream,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n

Crediting Om\u2019s success to his unwavering focus and the guidance of his coach, Raj Singh,<\/strong> Bhagyeshri said the young skater is already aiming higher. \u201cHe wants to win an Olympic medal for India.<\/strong> This achievement has only strengthened his determination,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n
