The Mumbai Police have suspended two officers and initiated an inquiry against five others after Bajrang Dal activists accused them of misbehaviour at the Oshiwara Police Station. The action follows an internal review ordered by DCP (Zone IX) Dixit Gedam.
According to the police order, Bajrang Dal’s district convenor, Shankar alias Rushav Jadhav, along with 10–15 activists, had visited the Oshiwara Police Station to lodge a complaint regarding an alleged incident of misbehaviour with a woman in Jogeshwari. The activists demanded swift and strict action against the accused.
While senior police officials assured them that proper legal procedures would be followed, tensions reportedly escalated when the activists remained near the police station entrance. It was alleged that five police personnel shouted at and misbehaved with them, leading to a heated exchange.
The Mumbai Police noted in their official statement that such conduct was “unbecoming of the police force and has tarnished the department’s image.”
Following the incident, DCP Gedam directed Assistant Commissioner of Police (Bandra Division) to conduct a preliminary inquiry against five sub-inspectors — Ramesh Kengar, Ganesh Gayke, Babu Totre, Deepak Barve, and Azim Zari — and submit a detailed report within seven days.
A senior police official confirmed that two of the officers have been suspended pending the outcome of the inquiry, while disciplinary action against others will depend on the inquiry findings.
This incident has drawn attention to the growing scrutiny of police conduct and accountability in Mumbai’s law enforcement system.
