Mumbai’s long-awaited Madh–Versova bridge project is finally set to take off, with construction likely to begin within the next two months. The ₹3,900-crore bridge is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Madh and Versova — cutting it down from nearly 90 minutes to just 10 minutes.

Currently, commuters have to take a 21–22 km detour via Malad, which becomes heavily congested during peak hours. The new bridge will provide a direct route across the creek, offering huge relief to thousands of daily travellers.

The project, led by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), had faced delays due to environmental clearance issues. While approvals have been granted by the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority and the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ), the final nod from the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests for mangrove cutting is still awaited. Once received, the BMC will approach the High Court for permission to begin groundwork.

Officials estimate that the bridge will be completed within three years, including monsoon delays. However, local fishermen have raised objections, fearing disruptions to fishing routes and silt accumulation during construction.

Despite these challenges, authorities remain confident that the much-anticipated Madh–Versova bridge will soon become a reality — transforming connectivity and easing traffic congestion across Mumbai’s western coastline.
