In a recent joint operation conducted on November 4, 2025, by the Collector’s Office and BMC P/North Ward, over 120–128 illegal huts constructed on government land near Ali Talao Road, Malvani, Malad West, Mumbai, were demolished. The demolition was part of an ongoing legal process to clear encroachments on government-owned land following directives from the Bombay High Court and subsequent orders from the Chief Secretary of Maharashtra. The action was not a sudden or isolated event but a continuation of a legal process that began with a Public Interest Litigation (PIL No. 54/2017) filed in the Bombay High Court against illegal encroachments on government lands across Maharashtra. On April 24, 2024, the Hon’ble High Court observed: “The office of the Collector is the custodian of the State property, which ultimately belongs to the people. It is the duty of the Collector to take appropriate steps, wherever and whenever required, to protect the same.” Following this, the Chief Secretary of Maharashtra, Mr. Nitin Kareer, on May 25, 2024, issued a directive to all district collectors to take strict and immediate action against encroachments on government land. Subsequently, the Divisional Commissioner, Mr. Radhakrishna Game, reinforced the directive, urging all district offices to act urgently in coordination with municipal bodies to remove illegal occupations. As part of this state-wide initiative, demolition drives have been carried out in multiple regions of Mumbai, including Chiko Wadi, Ambujwadi, Daruwali, and Malvani. Earlier, on May 29, 2025, a similar demolition was executed at the same site where 80–85 huts were cleared. However, after illegal reconstruction was observed, authorities conducted another demolition drive on November 4, 2025, led by Mr. Vinayak Vimal Tulsiram Padvi (Pro. Dy. Collector, Removal of Encroachments – Malad Division) along with BMC P/North officials. This action was carried out strictly in accordance with Bombay High Court and State Government orders to protect government land from illegal encroachments. Cyber Cops Warn Citizens of Fake Traffic E-Challan & SIM Hijack Frauds Mumbai: The Mumbai Cyber Crime Police have issued a strong advisory warning citizens about a new wave of online scams — from fake traffic e-challan messages on WhatsApp to SIM hijack frauds through bogus credit card offers.According to officials, cybercriminals are impersonating traffic police officers on WhatsApp, sending fake messages containing malicious links designed to trick users into downloading harmful files or revealing personal details.The advisory highlights several red flags citizens should watch for:Messages from unknown WhatsApp numbers claiming to be from traffic police.APK files with suspicious names like “Traffic Fine” or “RTO Challan”.Payment requests made through personal UPI handles.Links that don’t end with “.gov.in” or aren’t related to parivahan.gov.in.“Citizens must avoid clicking on suspicious links or downloading unknown files and should never transfer money through personal UPI handles,” the police advisory stated.In another alarming trend, cyber cops have also warned about SIM hijack frauds linked to fake credit card offers. Scammers contact victims posing as bank representatives, offering ‘lifetime free’ or ‘high-limit’ credit cards. They then collect sensitive identity details like PAN, Aadhaar, mobile number, and date of birth under the pretext of KYC verification.Once they have the information, fraudsters approach telecom providers claiming the user has lost their phone and initiate a SIM swap. With control over the victim’s mobile number, they gain access to bank OTPs, UPI verifications, and online transactions, swiftly draining funds from the victim’s account through mule accounts or digital wallets.Officials added that victims are often pressured into sharing data immediately or asked to verify details via fake bank websites or forms.The cyber police urge citizens to remain cautious and recognize early warning signs such as:Credit card offers received without any formal application.Requests for KYC verification via WhatsApp or phone calls.Sudden mobile network loss despite an active plan.Unauthorized OTPs or transactions from bank accounts.Public Advisory:If you receive such suspicious messages, do not respond or click any links. Undercover Editor | Revealing What Matters The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a major accused linked to an international cybercrime syndicate that defrauded Japanese citizens through sophisticated “tech support scams.” The action comes under the ongoing nationwide crackdown, Operation Chakra-V, aimed at dismantling global cybercriminal networks. The arrested individual, identified as Dwibendu Moharana, was detained at Bhubaneswar airport upon his return from the UAE on October 30, 2025. According to CBI officials, Moharana had fled India in May shortly after his illegal call centre in Noida — operating under the name VoIP Connect Private Limited — was raided by the agency. Investigations revealed that Moharana and his associates posed as technical support executives from reputed multinational companies, deceiving Japanese victims into making payments for fake services. The CBI stated that the racket used advanced social engineering tactics to manipulate targets and extract money under false pretences. Earlier this year, on May 28, coordinated raids across Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh led to the arrest of six operatives and the shutdown of two fake call centres. Those previously arrested include Ashu Singh (Delhi), Kapil Ghakhar (Panipat), Rohit Maurya (Ayodhya), Shubham Jaiswal, Vivek Raj, and Adarsh Kumar (Varanasi). After being brought to Delhi on a transit warrant, Moharana was produced before a special court and remanded to CBI custody for three days. The agency has now arrested seven accused in total and filed chargesheets against all of them. The CBI confirmed that the operation was conducted in close coordination with the National Police Agency of Japan and Microsoft Corporation, significantly disrupting one of the most active cybercrime networks targeting Japanese nationals.

The children, aged between 10 and 12, had come for an audition when Arya locked them inside and threatened to harm them and himself. According to police officials, Arya had been demanding unpaid dues from the state government under the “My School, Beautiful School” campaign. In a disturbing video message, he claimed he had taken the children “for a conversation” and was not a terrorist. A Quick Response Team (QRT) and Powai police launched an immediate rescue operation. During the tense standoff, Arya reportedly ignored repeated appeals to surrender. When police entered through the rear window, shots were fired — Arya was hit and later declared dead at the hospital. All 17 children were safely rescued and reunited with their families. Police recovered an air gun and some chemicals from the scene. Officials said Arya had earlier protested in Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur, claiming the government owed him over ₹2 crore for the Swachhta Monitor Project. However, Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar clarified that partial payment had already been made and denied further dues. The Powai police have registered a case and are investigating the sequence of events that led to this shocking incident.
